Spirituality

I was having a conversation with one of my sisters last week about our spiritual lives and where we stand.

I am one of those people who considers themselves spiritual rather than religious. In my opinion there is definitely a difference. A religious person, to me, follows a strict set of man-made rules and regulations whereas a spiritual person has an actual relationship with their higher power and strives not to be this completely perfect person but is just doing their best to live right and respect and love humankind.

Which brings me to one of my favorite quotes- "We are not humans having a spiritual experience, we are spiritual beings having a human experience."

That statement is so powerful to me. I think I have finally understood what the bible means when it says your body is a temple. Our body is housing our spiritual being and we should treat it with the care and respect that it deserves. If our body is well-cared for then our spiritual self is content as well

... if you wish to post this in your journal, it's been requested that you title it "I'm afraid of _ out of 72 common fears"

If you get more than 30, I strongly recommend some counseling.
If you get more than 20, you’re paranoid.
If you get 10-20, you are normal.
If you get 10 or less, you’re fearless.
People who don’t have any are liars.

Parenting

Parenting is the hardest thing I've ever done...but the most rewarding. Seeing his eyes light up and his smile when I walk into his room in the morning or after his nap makes all the sleepless nights worth it.

12 years ago today I gave birth to a beautiful baby girl who went on home to Heaven while I was in labor with her. Not a day goes by where I don't think about my angel. I often wonder who she would have looked like and what type of personality she would have had.

I recently gave birth to a little boy and sometimes he'll stop what he's doing and look up in the corner of whatever room we're in and smile and coo.

I know that he's playing with his sister and that she's watching over him.

It makes me smile every time.

Happy 12th Birthday Anissa.

Mama loves you

Your music is poison

There's an overabundance of really shitty music out now. Music is supposed to be uplifting to the soul. How can you be uplifted when the majority of music that's out now isn't talking about anything but materialism? The music out now is slowly poisoning our minds and souls.

I don't need or care to hear how many women/men you've been with (or are trying to get with you or you them). Who cares about how many cars you have or how much money and jewelry you have. Try talking about issues that are affecting all of us - politics, the environment, finding real love, etc. Anything!

Music hasn't evolved, unless you consider tasteless, mindless crap evolving. I'd much rather listen to music with some substance: Public Enemy, Paris, KRS One, Tunsi, Little Brother, Kem, Goapele, Stanley Clark. There's too many to name.

You won't find any of those artists (except for Kem, I've heard him on the jazz stations out here) on the radio. Why? Because one big corporation owns the TV and radio stations. They'd rather have the general public be mindless zombies listening to the shitty music that they select to play than free-thinking individuals.

Ever notice how most radio stations play the same 4 songs back to back about every 15 to 20 minutes? It's sad because there are so many talented musicians/artists out there right now that are so much more deserving of airplay than the talentless frauds currently in the spotlight.

When will things change? As soon as we all wake up and realized that we're being had.

I don't see that happening any time soon though.
